With the lights out. It's less dangerous. Here we are now. Entertainers. There's never love and Ellis die.
okay. Thank you for joining us. Thanks for you. Is, uh, I'm Kevin Ray and I am joined with the mountain. There's better on the decks than, uh, wrote to the cabin. It's DJ Bess. Well, we're on air. We're doing
Bez00:45
I think that's a myth. I think it's an urban myth. It was certainly not masturbate masturbates. No, there wasn't no somebody writing. The man with Jim, there was allegedly semen stains masturbates as well. All of the above. Yeah, well, no, I don't leave with that. Uh, the man behind the skins, who's less Keith Moon and more in sunshine.
Ian01:13
Hello, good evening. And welcome. And, uh, the man after his. Yeah. Tell I was named as sir, Peter. See, we did that. Thank you very much. How is everyone? Good? Good. You're right. I'm very well. I'm very well. I'm wondering why these two, uh, Western themselves laughing all the audio warnings. I got cut. I looked from beds cause I've just moved my phone.
Apologies for the slight nicer into this podcast. You see what Googling masturbates first? Uh, I was finishing the intro there. I've got the family out, so that makes no sense. And it wasn't. It was because you broke the house rules after them being read three and a half minutes ago. Um, so Jen what's, uh, what's been grabbing you eyes and ears this week and the world of music, uh, best.
Um, what, what, well, there was something I was looking at, which I thought, um, might depress you, Kevin shock you, um, that we know we've been struggling of late, um, with shortages, petrol, et cetera. Yeah. Well, there is a vinyl shortage. Did you know that? I did not know that it was a vinyl shop. Apparently it stems from a, um, a fire at a petroleum plant there's shortage of PVC.
And there's been I'm sorry, were you actually more concerned with the PVC shorts looking for some new gear clothing? And I was wondering why not? If it was arriving in time because some locked down lbs need some PVC feels a bit tight, the weekend activities missing those. So, anyway, start looking at, I asked a few friends have got
and apparently there's a shortage of PBC. And I thought, well, that might impact impact on vinyl and looking into it. It has so, um, larger, you know, your larger companies aren't affected so much, but your smaller, more independent, um, I started to feel the pinch start struggle really. And there was, um, you know, there's sort of stories of people who all they want, you know, just a small amount of precedents and it could take up to nine months.
So some of them, some of the reissues, I mean, certainly see people on cherry red and stuff like that. They go through that and they kind of say, we need pre-orders to get up to 500. And so that type of thing could be guy. He wanted 500, he held it in January and it arrived in seven. Any idea how long that would normally take you then?
Oh,
that's what I said. I said sooner, sooner than that, the official base, the supply of the petroleum and the, uh, the fuel rather than the, the actual pressure, it seemed to be, there was a fire in Texas, which has caused this big issue with it is a pressing plant in Japan. Which does all the master places must have copies.
I was reading. It seems very limited. Those birds and niche. Yeah. Okay. So what you're saying is it could be an opening in the market to, uh, to change pizza old office into a, uh, if he's got a lot of petroleum under this house,
Laura, be happy. Got rid of the new
good.
and it was this week. You know what? I haven't had my eyes and ears to the ground reason. Why is it that much this way? But I have one bit of news, which is on a similar level to the same shortage. PVC news is. From happy Mondays, not our base is gonna don't see. Nice. You see, there we go. How the mighty fall?
Well, I say that mighty fall is probably on par with the rest of his career, but yeah, he's getting a dancing, a nice new series. When you say the rest of his career, the guy is done phenomenally well for some Rackers and someone just being a hide meat to Duncan. Gigs in the late eighties, it's basically just bumbled through his whole, I mean, he's probably nearly 60 now.
Pete05:31
Isn't he he's managed to yeah. Being happy Mondays, shaking him Racker and dancing around. Lasted that through, got to the women's like two years ago, got into celebrity, big brother won it. He's um, what else has he done now? He's doing politician, all sorts of things.
so he's got alopecia, which is why it looks so weird. Eyebrows have gone. His eyelashes has gone. It's a, I mean, that is the picture of health.
I always thought you were named after base. That was Peggy the dog. That was a baby seat here based, but it's unrelated apparently. No, it has something to do with that. So, I mean, I did have a crack. It obviously not,
it's gone really twisted this week. Couldn't be twisted.
say something sensible for me. Well, for me, it was a couple of things. I went to a kick last night. um, went to go and see little sins up at a prison in Kingston. This is one of the gigs that I've got to through banquet records, where you buy the, buy the vinyl and you get the ticket to the gig as well. So hashtag banquet records, bank records yet.
I mean, I've done a couple of these now did the. Fontaine's one with thermal that while they go from TCC was my first gig back and over the next few weeks, I've got quite a few lines. It's what was that? And gigs rescheduled from two, three years ago. Whenever it was that this clusterfuck started, um, I just got up Sunday night with dad, uh, one on Tuesday with dads.
Um, we've got snapped ankles in a couple of weeks as well. Um, so there's loads of loads of stuff going on, but I'm really impressed with the gigs that these guys are running, whether it'd be bankrupt records or pie and vinyl down in Gilford, sorry, down in Portsmouth, who did the south sea? Did the Portsmouth Guild hall?
No pancreas. The one in Kingston, high in finals, one in south seat w best. And I went to go see, uh, and I tell you what that is such a cracking little record shop. Again, quite new. So I'm not sure how many people listened to us in port Smith. Now we know how many are listening to us in Nigeria, but
it's not quite specific for, for Portsmouth, but, uh, pine vinyl, lovely record shop, uh, pancreas as well. The amount of records they're selling for these gigs is incredible. So every night of the week they got. Uh, the next few weeks in, and I've got one booked up for Damon Albarn he's gonna be playing up there.
We're gonna invite base. But Damon said no
um, so that was one thing I wanted to talk about. The other thing was so on Twitter this week, um, one of my. All time heroes in music haven't then though when posted on Twitter, but he is doing cameo videos, uh, anyone familiar with cameo, so you can go and hold it up. These guys to record a, a message directly to you.
He's now doing or sing a song and say, you know, this one is to piece in bears on, on your animal. Um, and sing a song for you. And I think it was 130 quid or something along those lines. I was just like, actually, I was quite like that, but if someone's waiting, it's somewhat like that.
no where we stand now, the best cameo is, uh, James Buckley from. But you can call your
he's about 35 pounds ago. And apparently during lockdown has made something like 300 grand. Cause he's just pointing out in between his lines. People are loving it, really funny stuff. He goes to work, Ellie, uh, uh, film. Did this and our child pretty much send it to our group. It's bloody brilliant. And it features him and yes, he does indeed call.
He is the bus banker for not asking me to marry him sooner. It's just absolutely brilliant. It's like a series of about six or seven cameos. And some of these people had no idea who they were, but some of them are absolutely brilliant. It's a real thing. They haven't done that though. You kind of think that's someone with real talent.
It was really successful in big. And you read his profile on it. It's a little bit sad. Isn't it? Easier to fall on hard times. So I haven't got much cash. You'll be helping me out. And it doesn't sound like he's being that funny with the first comment on the Twitter feed was. Making a comment to is his past drug habits or existing drug habits, whatever it is.
Right. Um, I remember seeing his Twitter six months ago, him saying I've been four months straight, all these kinds of things. So he's actually been battling it for decades. Um, so sad, but if you want to go support an artist, go and travel the world and play gigs. Um, you know, it's something to go and do.
Maybe there's something that we need to, uh, take a look at. I the next week, come back with, uh, who we could get to do a cameo first, uh, for never left Elvis. So there's a little, uh, desktops for, so for next week, um, maybe miles is on there. Yeah.
Um, how about you always been grabbing your eyes? Speaking of live music, I went to my first indoor gig for ages back to the boiler room. It was brilliant. Really, really enjoyed it. I went to see a proper. Nostalgic or regression? Uh, I'm sure everyone will be familiar with the 1990 act. The choir boys.
Really? The nineties, maybe touching 89
they nonetheless, they they've. They've. Let's say that, and it was a good single item and plumbing parts of my brain. You don't, you know, sometimes you just, somehow you just seem to be able to remember all these words, no matter how many decades have passed, they would just come flooding back. And, um, that, that seems to happen with the more alcohol you drink as well.
We want to call, you can see in the morning your memory gets in that sort of time. You could just make some general sounds, which
you know? Well, that was what got me back into music was I remember I, there was a girl who I haven't been to, to a gig for six, seven years, and then all or certainly seen. And if the old bands that used to. And then one of the girls at the office couldn't make it gig. And I think it was a wonder stuff, um, at Hammersmith or Shepherd's Bush or something.
And she said, I've got these tickets if you want them went along to it. And I hadn't seen them for 20 years or something. And, um, they played all the hits and I sang word for word, have not listened to it for 15 years. And I was like, God, I miss this. This is good. There's something about being able to sing every single word at.
Uh, I know some bands hate playing their hits. And you said these guys didn't play. They're just going to say that was the funniest thing about it. It was like, they got this one here. I was being to Lorna. I was nine. And she was saying, oh, they must've played her. You was like, no. And then, then Lorna started singing it.
And I was like, yeah, that is, that is it please
But it was notable by its absence. Right. You know, they'd been absent for God knows how many decades. And they come back with like, oh, we're not gonna. All right. It seems a bit churlish. That is, I mean, we, when we, uh, I think I get it, sorry for interrupting, but I get it like when, you know, if a band is performing a lot and it's like, ah, I don't know what I'm sick of this.
Now we'll leave it out for a bit. But the generally come back to it. Yeah. Radiohead came back to creepy, creepy. James came back to sit down, you know,
not exactly playing the academy. I had a thought that would have been like, just tick that box. Yeah. Tufts, a merchant, the back. I can't remember who it was. There was someone nice playful. Um, it was saying that they were off to go see camping crews down here. Uh, south Hampton and did a fancy coming. And it was my favorite band for years.
Um, it was album that was forever on could, it was in the days when you could only take four hours with you if you rent it and stuff. So it was one of the four. She took everything off the Pandora and it was playing the, you know, the day we got engaged and all that kind of stuff. Um, so we've been sitting in those times where every time we've seen them, they deliberately fuck up that album, uh, that, that.
That song, um, deliberately. And it said most frustrating thing because everyone likes all the other songs. There's so many good songs, but to deliberately fuck it up. That's the
and just bit, you know, the lyrics slightly behind and earlier this week, I make mine go in touch and say, do you want to go to the accounting crows? And said, I was like, yeah, God. Cause if they're going to play anything from August and everything after I'm on that, I'm in. Yeah, absolutely. Definitely. Cause you know, there's that, you know, everyone's doing nostalgia tours and touring an album that's 25 years old.
But so it was like, yeah, great. Yeah. Just only five years. Yeah. Keep
Um, it, so I thought I'll go and look it up and see what it is. And it's this jazz album that he's done. This sort of jazz got a slightly strange album and you just. That he's not going to play anything like this. Do you just know it? So for 55 quid, a ticket at this was the Apollo. Yeah. Nah, you pop your right.
Yeah. They released a new album recently as well. And it sounds like the original album, but not the songs you love. They haven't moved on at all. You're not really interested in the new music and you know, they're going to mess up the old music. That's what I want to say is that one band I saw the other day at olive white festival.
You mentioned a second ago with James, got reputation for not playing their heads. I've read an interview before. Cause I was like, are why don't they, you know? And, um, and he's basically talked about there's different mood at every gig and you can justify not playing the hits. It depends on the audience, but festival gig, um, Then to play the hits and it didn't for like the first three quarters of it.
And people were walking away, people were getting annoyed with their people, really slating them in the crowd and then they brought it out and he, and he announced it before he played sit down. He said, well, we don't usually play this one, but we'll do it for you sort of thing. But he was kind of reluctant.
Did it, crowd went mad. Then he played late and the crowd went mad and then he play, get away with it all. When the crowd went mad, That's what you're here for. Surely they feed that as well, should, should have mixed up, but they keep on releasing new stuff that you think is as good as the old stuff. And that they have got a very dedicated fan following, but agree with festivals festival, it's got different just to round up on live stuff.
Um, we talked, I think maybe. Episode before last, maybe last episode about Rick gasoline blossoms, the unlikely, the unlikely uniting of these two, these two artists, but to do Smiths songs. So, you know, if you'd have put that in, I reckon I could have pulled out of a lucky draw, those three, like. Things it's like, yeah, you've got Rick ass leave for the blossoms and you've got the Smith.
Um, apparently it was, they absolutely killed it. Apparently it was absolutely brilliant. So I didn't scoff. I was like, okay, well that's probably gonna be there for a reason. And apparently they absolutely nailed it. It's brilliant. I'll look at the Johnny Marr response to that because it's, as I said in the last episode, Or out responsibility it's quite as withering.
Yeah. Um, we can chat in a long time about no, we're going to mention it about Shanghai twice. Didn't you get something by poles in Barcelona or something? No, that was, um,
but hang on. But the boars bit is true. And we can't move on
artist in jeopardy. It's not as odd as it sounds. And the fact they've got a problem with wild boars in parts of Barcelona, um, Shakira global hip hips, wire lip sway. It's also marriage. Okay. Um, she's married to PK the, um, the Barcelona defender and it has been for years, so they're based in Barcelona and she was in the park with her kids.
And one of them grabbed her bag and ran off with it, into the bushes, with her phone and everything you need, not a child. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Um, Yeah, it happened. Um, one of those, just this normalized getting attached for a while, but you haven't got there.
something else you could have pulled up.
This could be a good theme one week for a random stuff. Brian Harvey reversed over himself.
he was trying to kill himself. Wasn't he? Baked potato or something. Was that something different we might get out now
accidentally reversed out to reverse or something? I don't know. In my mind it was a deliberate bringing it up. It's not as funny as Shakira getting tapped by a wall.
You let us know you're okay. And talking about the ludicrous as we have. Uh, it was something I put around in the WhatsApp group the other day, about a Metallica black album. Oh yeah. Special. Kitchen. How much is that? 228 pounds. 99 Pence? No, no, no. It's still going to be good vinyl
um, we all agreed. That was a bit bit
even for our middle east. Yeah, but less disposable income than ever before.
Okay. So let's move on to the hall of fame then. Um, last week we in, in ducted induced and ducted, definitely. There was no, there there's no inducing. In ducted elbow to join the vibe to this episode, it's just a bit more chilled while Paul's inducing peaks, new new kitchen. That's our special guest recording studio.
Sorry, kitchen. Uh,
giving your address away. So last week it was Elway who joined. This is going to be one of these memory games. Amy Winehouse, Beastie, boys blur, chemical brothers. Def Leppard's. Yeah, Bravo. That was pretty good. Wait till we get to too wide. And so this week we are moving on to the letter F so, um, let's look around the table for, who's looking most keen to just speak
There you go. I've got the Fatboy slim. There's a lot of funds called F does he not start with Mr.
The car I realized I don't like a lot of with, I'm not enough to induct them into a hall of fame. I thought you were going to go for flow rider, but you decided not to. No, no, not even quite sure. I thought we might go for Frank and Maltese. Well, I thought you were going for Franklin walls. I probably wouldn't have gone for Frank.
Well, let's not that I don't like Franklin Wallace, but are the hall of fame? I don't know. Kind of Catholic. Yeah. Yeah. Family.
Not a hall of fame. I Fatboy slim slim. So, um, did you know if a wasteland or Norman caucus had three number ones in three different guises? How smart beats international needs international and
is a very, it's a very small band of people. I've done that about who else?
somebody tell us exclusive. But he is a stalwart of a British music and they
on the frog chorus. It's pretty good. That's got to be lightly. And the frog constraining the same group with him in the same breath as Mr. Paul McCartney. Now, can you imagine though, it's quite competent and you know, it's the music from, you know, it sounds. Uh, time for me, Joanne sickly, second album. And come on way, baby.
Um, also went, number one is big beach boutique
if one of the beach parties, which was fucking got to the big one. Yeah. Quite a quarter of a million people turned up to, and it certainly felt like. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it was sort of a high pass. It was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Had the whole crowd going crazy.
decks and dancing around in a Hawaiian shirt. I'm talking myself out of this.
the Hawaiian shirt. DJ's as well that has got like incredible music career before him, as he just mentioned. And he's written half those songs, not just like someone praying and playing other people's records, he's created those records. I mean, he's a proper talent. I know, but I didn't it. And you say, no, it's always seemed to know he he'd been doing stuff, um, under loads of different guises and all sorts of things.
And the first album that came out out as Fatboy slim is phenomenal as well.
um, that was the one that I remembered listened to incessantly first year uni kind of stuff too. So the first or second album, and then went back cause I love to everybody, everybody, um, Was that everybody needs to three, all three is everybody loves and everybody needs, he loves her,
but that whole album is awesome. But the, the one that really just set the world to light rather than just, um, I guess clubs and the scene in London, Nebraskan, whatever it was was is definitely.
He does some flow
he captures a moment and that's what we did in the nineties. He captured a moment and he's carried on through when he's still. Yeah, I think he's played every Glastonbury for, for the past 20 years or 25 years or something, but you can only baby. I mean, I didn't know there was an album before that, but that's just, it's an album singles.
It's just, if it listens to like the greatest hits the album, it's amazing now. But like you said, it was at the time and it did hit a moment. Didn't it properly. If he was, if he was praying, now that's a list of people that knew you would go set up with slim. I mean, it's still a name that you want to go and see, you know,
he knows what he's doing a little bit on the, um, the videos episodes. We were talking about the and you were talking about the evolution, videos and stuff like that. So. You know, again from a, from a stylistic point of view, um, it's not just the music, it's, it's everything that goes with it as well. Uh, and there was a period of 20 years, almost front page news, marrying, sorry, ball moving down to Brighton and having the beach from residents and parties going on and all these kinds of stuff.
I think these days I saw at camp vessel this year, I think he was doing a DJ set and his daughter was doing a com. She was called. No, it wasn't that voice, the fat girl slim, it was little cow slim or something like that. Um, so, you know, there's and she did do like a thing in lockdown, or they both did a thing during a lockdown.
They were both DJ and you know, all the, the internet, you know, the internet
all right. Last moment. That was a really credible proposition. Just taking normally cookies as a whole legend. What a hell of it? Hello, catalog all the way back to the house Martins as well. I think it criminally underrated. So Norman cook component in there, we kicked it out. The chemicals . Uh, thank you guys.
So Pete, who you got a, I'm going to have to surname F John for Shantay, uh, red hot chili peppers, guitarist, absolute legend. And he is one of those names. Those that know, John Shantay absolutely love him. Some don't know him, but when you start talking about and they realize they do love him and he's just looking completely perplexed.
So he was the
solo stuff. He did you sell this stuff when you learned Chili's
chilies? Um, I, I think he deserves to be in his own. Right. So he is the guitars from chili peppers. He's done 12 solo albums. Um, he, uh,
I think in 2004, apparently he did like six albums in a year or something, but he's a true artist. He's got a truly, uh, recognizable guitar sound. He's written some of the biggest songs that we all know and love. He came to the chili peppers after their first. Died. And he was like a super fan of the band joined the band, took them to new Heights, then lost the plot because they'd gone to new Heights and then walked away from the band for, I don't know, eight, nine years and actually purpose carried on.
But without him, they didn't have the magic there. And he came back for Californication and to do even bigger Heights. And he's, you know, he's a huge, I was trying to remember who was Navarro and. But when he came back, Californication was there and you know, too often today when he came back, did you have to leave if you went so, and it's happening again and again, and for the light loss
and they got their second guitars to take over. Uh, and he's been there for like last 10 years. And now John Shantay has rejoined the chili peppers last year. They got a new album coming out. They did a stadium tour next year. They're back on top and I think it's going to be. Um, I think is gonna be epic.
And I think he is a creative genius. He's an amazing guitar. His team makes the chili pepper sound and he SPN. And don't worry about the guy that wasn't the chili peppers the last 10 years. They just booted out because he's doing Pearl jam
So there was a vacancy in polo jams. Who was that? No, the mad thing is, I think they now have either three or four guitars.
what's the other car. Jeff know that Jefferson
it with three guitars, but, um, yeah, apparently coach him. I think he got four guitarists now for the touring band and it's outrageous, but there's definitely
we did with the rest of the band. So does he thinks with writing with the band. Dickheads. Yeah. I, I think that they, they say writing stamp. Yeah. And I think that's where fleet was talking about him coming back to the band and how bad they felt back kicking out. The guy has been interim at the moment, but there sounds like the creative vibe between, you know, flea Anthony Kiedis and you know, the drama as well, you know, Chad as well, but particularly between Flynn and, um, John is amazing and like, yeah.
Yeah, that guitarist is very few guitarists that you recognize or guitars that are as big as the lead singer of the band, the guitar that sound that Shanti did that the ball to the chip is you're right. It is interesting. You recognizable? Yeah. Like the age of YouTube. It's a very easy sound to pick out you go.
Yeah. Okay. Definitely that's mine, but Joel, I realize I might cocked up there by taking the peer saying what's your favorite album? Cause the, the band I'm going to nominate the founders in the, uh, The mid sixties, I started mid seventies, uh, ran all the way through to 2017 with 32 studio albums, which if I ever
people's favorite. Well, in fact, John field Peel's favorite band that you said there was different or was the same, um, that 66 different members of the band throughout the lifetime. Um, but at least. As long as it's me. And even if you're grandpa and bongos, we will be the full, uh, so I'm going to put the fall in, um, there's a book called the fallen, which is all the members of the people they have been in 66.
um, doing the reset. So was review through like a year. History of the fall is, and then they fell out and they left even, even when they go on tour to the states and one gig in, he falls out with all the members of the band and they all leave. Um, I think once he got to 60, that was pretty
I never thought to look within what's all this gotten comments me, isn't it like
Yeah, it's gotta be that guitar guitar pretty much like every decent man that came out of Manchester in the late seventies, early eighties, they were formed after being at the, uh, Theresa free church, free trade hall, um, watching too much in the sex pistols. So the second never get queer. Apparently
formed off the back of that. And then the influencer. You know, the, the amount of bands have quoted them as being a main influencer, whether it be Sonic youth, even Pixies from the American sides of her, a really small kind of quite niche band based in Manchester who do their own thing, they don't try and have commercial success.
I mean, they might've tried, but maybe just for a week or two until someone. Um, all the way through to happy Mondays and LCD sound system. So quietly, one of the main influence as well, Marcie Smith is a, or was, uh, until he passed away. Just one of these people that was, uh, 20, 20 18, I think it was, he was. A free spirit, I think is the best way to put it.
Um, she was like the hurricane Higgins of the music world. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. Very, very, I mean, they looked the same as well. Just that kind of food for me. Um, that was what I was thought of when I thought of Manchester was Marky Smith. Um, and, um, hell of event, um, intimidating figure, a very intimidating.
Testify. Um, interestingly, there's, there's a few, if they're singles that are love album mys decent, but some of the better stuff was also covered some completely reinventing lost lots of music, one of my favorites, and it goes to my house main check, a couple of singles on the playlist. And then also the first one that got me into the fall was certainly it wasn't the fuller tour.
It was marketing Smith doing. I want you with. Inspire conflicts within brambling over the top, a very different style to most singers. Um, very unique. And you can see what John peel would love him, just, um, uh, free spirits, um, even gorillas as well as they, he was on one of the girls album quite possibly.
Yeah. One of these people, not quite gun for hire. Everyone wanted to work with him. Well, you know, it was one of those people that people influence everyone everyone's into work within, apart from his band mates. Um, like, I mean, there's a lot, a lot of follow I've not listened to. I like, I listen to quite a lot that infotainment, but when, so there's a bit more, um, um, okay.
Was this when he was working with Smith? I don't know. They were saying during that. Mid eighties, the early nineties and brick Smith is his wife and band member. They were really pushing more on the commercial side and I say more on the commercial side, they kind of had a few top 40 hits and that kind of stuff, rather than the indie charts, um, it all went downhill from there.
Um, and the amount of record labels they have is almost as high as the number of band band members. Um, the full ones out I've been notorious and, and well-documented. Really for hall of fame member, I've got to absolutely full have to be put forward for this. Oh, that's a good case. That is a very strong case.
It's the first two boys that book you were talking about, the fallen, the fallen is that, is, that, does this catalog all of these
or large as he was known, then.
Yeah, well, we used to roadie for them 16 at the time, playing with them and then
um, so the fall, so, so far we've got fabulous slim, John for Shanti, uh, the full in work to complete, well, we saved the best offset, so we saved the best class though, 2017. T-shirts um, Foo fighters. We've got it. It's it's, it's a shoe in surely wrap up. What does that, what do people need to know about the flu fighter?
Um, 11 albums, um, in there that will actually favor in your honor. Yeah, dude, I'm always going to be good. They were always going to be. Good Dave Grohl. That was the thing I really think they were. I mean, I, I think, I think that was the great thing about the three fighters was they weren't set up to be great at all.
It was very much the drama for Nirvana has got nothing to do because Kurt Cobain's gone now. And that was how everyone pigeonholed him. And he was tailed by the whirlwind. That was Kurt Cobain. Didn't find his voice. He was doing all this stuff in the back. In his basement, I went, fuck it. I'll just do it all.
And so from my point of view, the greatness of it is it wasn't expected that it's all, you see the amount of bands. They leasing. It goes, I mean, somewhere to go and people go off and then never hear them again.
and he was always going to get a chance to like, get that out there and like those songs of color and the shape as it. And Shay, wasn't it, those sorts of great. Um, but after that, talk about my woman to your thing, you know, and the videos that came after that, the music videos, the irreverence and the fun, and the taking the pests that you know, that the, at the learn to fly the airline and long road to ruin and.
A little bit later granted, but I think that once he started to warm up to the theme and the songwriting followed the fact that it was, so these songs became bloody brilliant stuff. Like monkey wrench, you have a long, well, that, those early songs, I think that, well, I think that's, that's, that's, you know, pretty what you were saying, Kevin.
I mean, he had to work his way up. Well, though, you could easily have got signed for something for one album deal straight after Nirvana. Yeah, actually, it was great because he did it all himself and he impressed everyone, but it was, it wasn't like it's suddenly when he died, they were the biggest band on earth.
They've worked their way through albums. They'd done. Probably more top of his game than he's ever been. He's not in a stout or act. He is a current, you know what? They are a current band releasing songs that people love, but with a huge back catalog now, and they're great band headlining, well blessed to be what, three years ago.
Yeah. The album is sort of grown in stature, granny personality. And you, although the band is. Yeah, as well. It's got the link to Nevada. It's got pap smear and there's guys have been with him a long time. Original drummer for food fighters. Didn't last for a long time. They do the second album. I think he got the drunk.
And recorded the album with the new drummer. And it was like, just go right to the studio, recorded all the drums.
kinda need you on tour. Give you a bus. I'm not doing this. Yeah. And that's when Titan Hawkins joined. Um, but yeah, I mean, that's, it, there are bands that have worked their way up over the years. They hone their craft. They are top of their game. They're absolutely top of their game. Still. He's done the, what you were talking about earlier, Fatboy slim he's he ha he was in Nirvana.
Um, so he's done two, he's got one more after this. I think that. Here's that wonderful, strong personality that's come out more and more. Every time they've toured and he's able to carry it a 200,000 crowd and just get him to do exactly what he wants. And Taylor's almost come, come up and stop become this personality too.
And there are real, real joy to watch anything. We've been talking about the crowd, going to getting the crowd involved with me lost, I think a couple of weeks, a couple of episodes ago, maybe we were talking about that, but how he gets them all inside and pulls people out and get some onstage to do their thing.
And I said, well, I was reminded when I was having to look down through the album and stuff like that, about the genetic. Do you remember the Rocky 1000? They did it in Chestnut, in Italy. And they said, you know, they put it out on social media didn't they and said, so, you know, you're touring Italy, but you're not touring where we are.
We'd really, why don't you come to where we are? And then, uh, they said, we'd really like to come, and this is how much we want you to come. So they got a thousand musicians in a field or playing land flying at the same time. Extraordinary, extraordinary YouTube video. Look that up. If you haven't seen them.
And they've gross response in, in Italian who was brilliant. He was like, yeah, go on. Uh, it is sort of well placed to do stuff like that, but they've got the back catalog. They've got the creativity. Um, I think they've been absolutely magnificent over the years. They've become increasingly mainstream shores.
It's as it's gone through. And, um, anyone heard their latest album medicine. I've listened it through. Yeah. What'd you think? I thought it was good, but there's nothing super grabbed me, but it's good. And I'm going to give it more of a listening cause I've got tickets for them playing the Olympic stadium next year.
So, I mean, it's good to give it a listen, but I read a review before I listened to it and it was, and there was something like that. They modeled try to model it around barriers. Let's dance. Oh, dear yeah. Model. That sounds like, you know, the man, it was an Abba that we touched on episodes ago, but I thought, okay, that's fine.
But unfortunately I couldn't, I couldn't listen to the album. Every, every song sort of had that filter on it, but there was a couple of bangers on there, but it just feels like it's gone a little bit mainstream and a little, I've been doing a little bit time again, we're talking a band that I've got a quarter century of, of stuff behind it now.
And to still be releasing decent tapes. It's not many days still doing after training been able to do songs like, you know, listen to songs like I'll Andrea from wasting light and, you know, having disenchanted load buying from one button one by one it's that they're extraordinary songs that they still, they can still draw on set.
Anyway. So, um, and lastly, Taylor was a big influence when I was playing the trumps. So, um, yeah. Good shout. There you go. Okay. So we've got foo fighters, the fall, John Crow, Shanti. Fatboy slim. So votes for fat boys slim. Yeah. Oh, that's very kind of sympathy.
slim deserves to be in there. He does a

Okay. So I think we were really up against it guys. I've been enjoying the chat this week, so we're going to drop our, uh, main feature, which was frankly, a bit shit. It was let's move on to a game. Uh, we are going to play the same game we played last week, which last week I gave the name of apply some pressure.
Um, now we haven't got any squeakers or anything this week, so now I'm going to read some lyrics out.
